I met Eric
Holder tonight. I told him I missed him these days, but that when he was AG I
was usually pissed off at him. He was good natured about it.

I told him he seemed to think people like him
would always be in charge. It’s our job at the ACLU to worry about principles,
I told him, regardless of the politics. He seemed to appreciate that.

I mean, how could he not, given the current
dynamic.

  Anyway
here he is accepting @GLADLaw’s 2017 spirit of justice award.

  There is no
question Obama was a million times better than Trump, that Holder was a million
times better than Sessions. No matter, tho: We must always fight for what’s
right, no matter who is in power.

  The right, in
general, is much better at holding their own accountable. We shouldn’t be
afraid to push “our” people to do the right thing, no matter what.

  that is a very
important observation ty there's so much 'could be worse' on the left which
kind of annihilates authenticity

He did great work for police reform but
otherwise weak unfortunately.

I think that sums up Obama’s Presidency: a
few good changes but fall well short of great potential to overhaul status quo.

I've noticed a strange thing since Cheetolini
took office. I used to read a lot from outlets that were v. critical of gov't,
like Intercept.

But now I read those outlets less. In past, I
would read those and say "see, this is what they're _really_
about/doing" despite the image

  But now, POTUS is
literally a Nazi lover, so an incremental change to surveillance or war policy
doesn't carry the same gravity anymore...

For me personally that is. And so I pay a lot
less attn to that sort of thing, get more of my news from CNN/NYT/etc. than in
past. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
