anyway it's good to argue about what words mean. in fact, it is beautiful
the lifestyle of argument and thought is actually good; it's a pity to see it so rarely aspired to. used to spend hours arguing over different things; ur mind feels fantastic the next day, sort of sore and swimming, then settles down to new clarity
when I did high school debate, every judge would warn us that they hated definition debate and would vote it down. so sad. it was the foundation of the arguments, and you couldn't get anywhere without it. might as well not define things at all.

Definition debate is rlly good and fun and core to LD debate.
somebody tell that to the parent judges
Parent judges should be banned, at least at big tournaments. It’s just too disruptive and unreliable. I got blocked from semifinals at Harvard bc a parent judge “thought [I] argued better, but agreed with [my opponent’s] conclusions more.”

when graduated and started judging I would tell debaters that they should debate definitions, it was glorious
