I am sure that very few people now living have read the book
that this movie was allegedly based on. I have. When they made the movie, they
literaly threw away everything but the title.

I started watching movies about 63 years ago and started
reading books somewhat later. My experience would dictate the following advice:
If you have read a book and liked it, don't watch the movie version. If you have watched a movie and liked it, don't read the book it was based upon.
He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good... St. Matthew 5:45

Yes In the autobiographical book I don't think Yeats-brown
ever fires a shot at anything except perhaps at a polo ball. The book is simply
a travelogue of Yeats-Brown life as a soldier/tourist. Lots of interesting
anecdotes of life in far away places but no action. Even his WW1 service is
only 4 pages long.
